Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have bolstered their pace attack by signing South African fast bowler Gerald Coetzee for the rest of the IPL 2026 season. Coetzee joins the team as a replacement for David Payne, who has been ruled out of the tournament due to an ongoing ankle injury.
Payne’s spell this season was short but impressive as he appeared in two matches and grabbed two goals before injury cut short his campaign. In his place, SRH opted for Coetzee’s raw pace and aggression and secured his services for Rs 2 crore.
The right-arm pacer brings significant international pedigree to the Hyderabad camp. Coetzee represented South Africa in four Tests, 14 ODIs and 18 T20Is, amassing a total of 67 international wickets. He is also no stranger to the pressures of the IPL, having previously played 14 matches representing Gujarat Titans (GT) and Mumbai Indians (MI).
With 15 IPL wickets to his name already, Coetzee’s ability to hit high speeds and provide breakthroughs in the middle overs will be a vital asset for SRH as they push for a play-off spot in the second half of the tournament.
