As the IPL and PSL schedules have clashed in recent seasons, several international cricketers, especially those unsure of regular selection in IPL franchises, have started exploring opportunities in Pakistan’s premier T20 competition. At 38, Moeen has made it clear that his priority is simple: to stay relevant and enjoy cricket while he still can.“I’m 38 now and I still want to play, do well and extend my career as much as possible… It’s a shorter competition that works better for my family and me,” Moeen said on the ARY Podcast.

Shreyas Iyer’s Masterclass and Arshdeep Singh’s Return! PBKS reveal a winning formula The England veteran had a tough IPL 2025 campaign with Kolkata Knight Riders where he managed just 5 runs in six matches and picked up six wickets, ultimately losing his place in the playing eleven. Reflecting on this phase, Moeen highlighted the lack of opportunities as the main factor behind his decision.“I only played half the games in the IPL last year and I barely got to bat, just twice. At this stage I want to be out; I want to bat. I feel like I’m playing good cricket at the end of my career and I just want to carry on,” he added.
Karachi Kings Move: A New Chapter
Moeen was signed directly by Karachi Kings ahead of PSL 2026 for a reported PKR 6.44 million, bringing his vast experience to the franchise. The move also marks his return to the PSL after previously featuring for Multan Sultans, with whom they won the title in 2021. Karachi Kings saw Moeen as a key all-round addition, capable of strengthening both the middle-order and spin departments in a competitive PSL season. He primarily played in the middle order (#5–7), with his standout performance being an unbeaten 48 off 29 balls in the season opener against Quetta Gladiators. He provided a major breakthrough with his off-spin, notably picking up 2 wickets for 31 runs against Lahore Qalandars. He scored 8 runs and 1 wicket in his last match against Islamabad United on 16 April. Apart from his PSL commitments, Moeen recently called off his domestic retirement and signed a T20 Blast-only deal with Yorkshire for the 2026 England season. The shift reflects a broader shift in mindset that players now prioritize: regular playing time, role clarity and career longevity“You’re never guaranteed a place anywhere, not even here, but I want to enjoy my cricket as much as I can. I’ve always wanted to experience the PSL, but unfortunately it’s a bit of a clash with the IPL,” concluded Moeen.
