Although electricity demand is on the rise this summer, the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) is not considering curtailing power supply, KSEB Chairman and CEO Minhaj Alam said after a meeting on Friday to review the energy situation.
“This time the demand is high. But we have made all arrangements for supply from central stations and purchases through power exchanges,” Mr Alam said. KSEB is also exploring options to procure electricity through the term-ahead market (TAM). Peak demand reaching 6,000 megawatts (MW) this season was not unexpected, he said. On April 14, Kerala’s peak electricity demand reached 6012 MW, an all-time high for the state.
