Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday (April 17, 2026) said the principle of “one person, one vote, one value” was being violated, pointing out that while some members of Parliament represent 48 million people, others represent barely 6 million.
Mr Shah said the created ‘North-South’ narrative was damaging the country and that the people of Lakshadweep had the same right to Parliament as those of Bihar or Uttar Pradesh. He said the story would not reduce the government’s popularity and even if the opposition “turned gray” it would not be able to fill the treasury benches.
