The Uttarakhand government on Thursday (April 16, 2026) ordered an inquiry after taking cognizance of a video circulating on social media purportedly showing children from other states being brought to madrassas in parts of Uttarakhand.
Parag Madhukar Dhakate, Special Secretary in the Minority Welfare Department, directed the District Magistrates of Dehradun, Haridwar, Udham Singh Nagar and Nainital to undertake extensive verification drives across all madrasas in their jurisdictions.
According to the order, the investigation will look into the origins of the children, whether consent was obtained from their guardians, and the person or organization responsible for their transfer to the institutions.
