
US President Donald Trump said he had a positive conversation with Prime Minister Narendra Modi as tensions remain high in West Asia following the stalling of US-Iran peace efforts.
“I had a very good conversation with him and he’s a friend of mine from India and he’s doing great,” Trump told reporters on Thursday (April 13). “We had a very good conversation.
Almost a 40 minute call
The leaders spoke for almost 40 minutes on Tuesday (14 April), marking their third meeting this year.
The discussion came at a sensitive time following the collapse of US-Iran peace talks and growing instability in West Asia.
PM Modi emphasizes strategic partnership
In a post on X, PM Modi confirmed the conversation and said both sides took stock of bilateral progress.
“I received a call from my friend President Donald Trump,” Written by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “We reviewed the substantial progress made in our bilateral cooperation in various sectors.”
He added: “We are committed to further strengthening our comprehensive global strategic partnership in all areas.”
Focus on West Asia and the Strait of Hormuz
The two representatives also discussed the regional situation with an emphasis on maritime security.
Prime Minister Modi said they stressed “the importance of keeping the Strait of Hormuz open and secure,” referring to the key global energy route amid ongoing tensions in the region.
Trump’s final endorsement report
According to US Ambassador to India Sergio Gore, Trump ended the call with a personal note to Prime Minister Modi.
“I just want you to know that we all love you,” Trump said.
The third call this year between the two leaders
This is the third phone call between Trump and Prime Minister Modi in 2026.
