The Allahabad High Court has expressed grave concern over the filing of “false, false and baseless FIRs” under the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religions Act, 2021, saying it has noted a “disturbing pattern of misuse” of the law by the police and third-party complainants.
The observations were made on April 13 by a division bench comprising Justice Abdul Moin and Justice Pramod Kumar Srivastava while hearing a petition filed by a Muslim against whom an FIR was lodged citing anti-conversion provisions of the Act.
