Have you ever wondered how and when the Tamil Nadu assembly strength was fixed at 234 seats? This figure was arrived at by the Delimitation Commission which carried out the redistribution of Lok Sabha and Assembly seats after the 1961 census.
According to Article 170 of the Constitution and § 8 letter b) Constitution Delimitation Commission Act, 1962, the number of seats in the State Assembly must be an integral multiple of the number of Lok Sabha seats allotted to that State.
