
A SpiceJet plane crashed into an Akasa Air plane parked at the Delhi airport on Thursday, April 16. Both airlines issued statements confirming the incident. However, neither named the other in their official remarks.
What did Akasa Air say?
The spokesman said in a statement that Akasa Air flight QP 1406, operating from Delhi to Hyderabad, had to return to the Gulf on April 16, 2026.
“Preliminary information indicates that the Akasa aircraft was stationary when it was contacted by another airline’s aircraft,” the statement said, without naming the SpceJet aircraft.
The airline informed that all passengers and crew were safely disembarked and “our ground teams are making alternative arrangements to fly our passengers to Hyderabad as soon as possible”.
What did SpiceJet say?
In a statement, SpiceJet airline said that on April 16, a SpiceJet B737-700 aircraft was involved in a “ground incident while taxiing at Delhi airport”.
The incident resulted in “damage to its right wing and the left horizontal stabilizer of another aircraft belonging to another airline”.
“The SpiceJet aircraft was grounded in Delhi,” a SpiceJet spokesperson added.
What exactly happened at Delhi airport today?
The wings of an Akasa Air and SpiceJet aircraft came into contact on the runway at the Delhi airport on Thursday, news agency PTI reported.
Officials said the Akasa Air plane was taxiing for take-off and the SpiceJet was taxiing towards the parking stand when the incident occurred around 2.15 pm at the airport’s Terminal 1.
It was a Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft.
