An all-party meeting chaired by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Wednesday (March 5, 2025) in Chennai unanimously called on the Center to maintain the existing number of Lok Sabha seats and constitutional boundaries for another 30 years beyond 2026. The resolution passed in the meeting said that Tamil Nadu’s existing 7.18% of the total seats must not be reduced under any circumstances. (In 2001, the 84th Amendment to the Constitution froze electoral district boundaries until the first census after 2026.)
The meeting also decided to form a Joint Action Committee comprising representatives of political parties from all southern states to raise awareness among the people and continue the fight to prevent seat reduction.
