Chennai Super Kings have reportedly written to the Board of Control for Cricket in India regarding the music and remarks played at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium during their IPL 2026 clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on April 5.
According to a report by The Indian Express, the franchise has done away with playing ‘Dosa, Idly, Sambar, Chutney’, a song by Gana Appu that has often been used in meme culture around South Indian stereotypes. CSK also expressed concern over certain accompanying comments and meme references that they felt were not in good taste during the match.
An IPL official confirmed that the complaint has been received and is being reviewed, with the governing body expected to look into the matter. CEO of the Czech Republic Kasi Viswanathan said that the environment at Chinnaswamy stood out compared to typical outdoor establishments.
“DJs are usually around to support the home team. But on the field.” Chinnaswamy Stadiumit was different. Some comments were made against our players. In view of this, we have written to the BCCI to look into it,” said Viswanathan.
A previous incident adds context
The controversy also has a recent history. During the previous IPL season, the same track gained traction after RCB wicketkeeper Jitesh Sharma referred to it before the match in Chennai. In this match, a DJ from Chepauk played a song when Sharma was dismissed, which drew reactions from the fans.
Following the episode, the CSK management reportedly introduced clearer guidelines to ensure that DJs did not target opposition players or fans. “After this incident, it never happened again. DJ should not make any comments on opposition players,” Viswanathan added while pointing out the fan culture of the franchise.
Rivalry under the spotlight
Apart from the song itself, CSK are unhappy with some remarks made over the public address system during the game on April 5, although the details remain unclear. The franchise believes that DJs should focus on creating a positive atmosphere rather than undermining opponents.
This episode adds another chapter to the growing intensity of the CSK-RCB rivalry, which has seen heightened emotions on and off the field in recent seasons.
