A group of Christian leaders along with representatives of SCs, STs, OBCs and minority communities strongly criticized the BJP-led Centre’s proposed amendment to the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Bill, 2026, which was tabled in the Lok Sabha.
In a memorandum addressed to Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and signed by clerics from various Christian denominations under the auspices of the All India Christian Council, the leaders termed the bill as “constitutionally flawed”. They warned that a provision allowing a “designated authority” to act without judicial oversight could allow the takeover of Christian and minority institutions whose FCRA licenses are not renewed. They cited the temporary revocation of the license of the Missionaries of Charity in 2021 as a precedent.
