The agrarian heartland spanning much of the Cauvery delta in central Tamil Nadu has earned a reputation as a tipping point in recent elections. The party with the largest number of seats from this region went on to form the government in the last election. The region could also play a vital role in these elections.
The DMK, which won 37 of the 41 constituencies in nine districts in 2021, is keen to maintain its dominance. AIADMK, which suffered heavy losses in 2021 due to vote split caused by AMMK and NTK in several constituencies, is hoping that the anti-government factor will turn the tide in its favour. Besides, with AMMK and TMC(M) now on his side, he hopes to bridge the gap in the core delta. However, with VK Sasikala charting her own course along with PMK founder S Ramadoss, the extent of AMMK’s influence could be limited. TTV Dhinakaran may not be able to fully capture the Kallar vote bank, given the rift in the family of Sasikala, who is an aide to former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa.
