“Zero tolerance”: Center designates 23 individuals as terrorists under UAPA | Today’s news

The Union Home Ministry on Saturday released a list of 23 Pakistan-based individuals designated as terrorists under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

These individuals are associated with terrorist groups like Jaish-e-Mohammad and Lashkar-e-Taiba.

“In line with Modi Ji’s vision of zero tolerance for terror, the MHA today declared 23 dreaded terror functionaries as terrorists under the provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act,” the home minister’s office said in a post on X.

“The designated terrorists are involved in anti-India activities, carry out terrorist attacks, incite terror, smuggle weapons, infiltrate across borders, assist terrorist organizations, raise funds and recruit terrorists. Out of the 23 terrorists announced today, 17 are Pakistani nationals and 6 are Indian nationals. However, all of them are currently operating terrorist activities from Pakistan and Kmuash-Cupied Pakistan and Pakistan.

After including the names of these terrorists in the said list, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) will be able to freeze their finances, seize their assets and also impose an embargo on arms sales to them.

The Anti-Terrorism Act was amended in 2019 to allow individual terrorists to be listed. Previously, only groups could be listed.

The inclusion of these names brings the total number of terrorists on the list to 80.

The latest addition comes as the government seeks to dismantle the logistics, recruitment and leadership of terror outfits based in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir that have attacked India, facilitated cross-border infiltration of terrorists, financed terrorist activities in India and radicalized Indian youth, according to NDTV.
