A. Amalraj is the new Commissioner of Police, Chennai

Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) A. Amalraj has been appointed as the Greater Chennai City Police Commissioner. He replaces Abhin Dinesh Modak who has been posted as ADGP in Crime Branch-CID.

Dr. Amalraj, one of the senior-most ADGPs in the state, belongs to the 1996 batch of Indian Police Service (IPS) and had earlier served as Commissioner of Police, Tambaram, in two different terms.

He served the Tamil Nadu Police in various capacities, including as Commissioner of Police in Salem, Coimbatore and Tiruchi. He headed the central and western zones of the state police.

He served as Superintendent of Police in Theni, Madurai, Ramanathapuram and Salem.

Dr. Amalraj has been awarded the President’s Distinguished Service Medal, the Police Merit Medal, the Chief Minister’s Medal for Special Achievement and the Chief Minister’s Medal for Outstanding Performance in Public Service.

TS Anbu who was ADGP CB-CID is yet to get the posting.
