The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced a record prize pool for the 2026 Women’s World T20 Cup with 60 days to go until the tournament in England and Wales.
The total prize pool was set at $8,764,615, a 10 percent increase from the 2024 edition, where $7,958,077 was split between 10 teams. The upcoming edition will also expand to 12 teams for the first time in the history of the tournament.
The winners will receive $2,340,000, while the runners-up will receive $1,170,000. The two losing semi-finalists will take home $675,000 each. At the group stage level, each win is worth $31,154, with all 12 participating teams guaranteed a minimum prize pot of $247,500.
ICC CEO Sanjog Gupta said the increase reflected the continued growth of the women’s game.
“The growth of women’s cricket continues to accelerate and the expansion of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup to 12 teams, combined with a record prize pool, underlines our commitment to building a stronger and more competitive global game,” said the CEO.
“The continued rise of women’s cricket through increased investment and opportunities reflects the growing impact and influence of female athletes on the global stage.
“With equal momentum across all aspects of women’s cricket, this event is shaping up to not only set a number of new attendance and viewership records across the sporting and media ecosystems, but also leave a lasting impact on the wider socio-cultural landscape across the globe.”
The ICC also launched its Trophy Tour in association with DP World. The tour began in London, where the trophy was displayed at Lord’s Cricket Ground, the venue for the final.
From there, the trophy will travel across European member states, including the Netherlands, Ireland and Scotland, before moving through the host cities in England in May. Fan engagement events are planned for Millennium Square in Leeds, St Peter’s Square in Manchester, Bullring in Birmingham, Cabot Circus in Bristol, Guildhall Square in Southampton and Trafalgar Square in London.
The tournament will begin on June 12 when hosts England take on Sri Lanka at the Edgbaston Cricket Ground.
