Communist Party of India (Marxist) State Secretary MV Govindan has expressed confidence that the Left Democratic Front (LDF) will return to power for an unprecedented third term by winning more than 90 seats, saying speculations about a high turnout in the Assembly elections are baseless. Addressing a press conference at the AKG Center here on Sunday, he said that the incumbent LDF MLAs would emerge victorious as voters had shown an intense desire for continuity.
Mr. Govindan refuted speculations that the high polling percentage in the assembly elections could be an indicator of a change in government. “The United Democratic Front (UDF) as well as sections of the media are trying to create an impression that the higher voting percentage is proof of anti-establishment. However, if you compare the voter numbers with the previous elections, you will realize that this claim is baseless. Compared to the 2021 assembly elections, the voter turnout has greatly reduced after the Special Intensive Revision 94 (SIR). 78.27% voted voters in 71 constituencies compared to 2021,” Mr. Govindan said.
