Two years ago, when a team of experts from Southern Railway and State Highways inspected the existing manned level crossing (LC 81) in Vaniyambadi town for the construction of a road bridge (ROB), residents were hopeful that their ordeal at the level crossing would end soon.
Months have passed, but motorists patiently wait under the scorching sun at the interchange to pass between the eastern and western parts of this riverside city. “During polls, local issues matter. We have been trying for more than two decades to get a new bridge to replace the railway crossing. Candidates of major political parties have given us assurances about the bridge, but our suffering remains unchanged,” said C. Sethuraman, a resident.
