Panruti, the cashew capital of Tamil Nadu, is gearing up for a high-stakes battle between the AIADMK and the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK). There are nine candidates in the fray, but the real fight is between AIADMK’s K. Mohan and VCK’s Abdul Rahman.
T. Velmurugan, president of the Tamizhaga Vazhvurimai Katchi (TVK), who won a seat on a Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) ticket in the 2001 and 2006 elections, will not contest in 2021 as part of the DMK-led alliance. In the 2021 elections, Mr. Velmurugan defeated AIADMK’s Satya Panneerselvam by a margin of 4,967 votes.
