The Communist Party of India (CPI) on Sunday urged the Center to start a caste census along with the long-pending census ahead of local body elections likely to be held by the end of this year in Andhra Pradesh.
Addressing a party meeting in Chittoor, CPI State Executive Committee member A. Ramanaidu said the 2021 national census has been postponed and pointed out that the last caste census was conducted in 1931. He added that though the data was collected in 1941, it was never made public.
