A GIS-based digital dashboard for solving coordination problems in GBA

The Geographic Information System (GIS)-based integrated digital dashboard to be developed for the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) area will integrate information related to roads, road history, underground networks, street lights and ongoing infrastructure works undertaken by various departments. All civic agencies have been asked to upload details of their proposed works and action plans on the platform before implementation.

It is hoped that this will bring better cooperation between various civic agencies in the city and lead to avoidance of frequent breakdowns, road digging and long delays, said Greater Bengaluru Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda, who announced the initiative on Friday.

The minister said newly laid roads are often dug up within months as agencies work without sufficient information sharing. An integrated GIS platform is expected to minimize such cases by enabling pre-planning and inter-departmental coordination before projects begin.

Mr. Byre Gowda directed all the agencies involved to jointly plan infrastructure works and synchronize project timelines so that engineering works, road construction and other civic projects are carried out together, thereby reducing repeated excavation work and disruption to public life.

The minister further emphasized that the platform will be made available to the public for monitoring projects and action plans of projects implemented in the city.

GBA Executive Committee

Mr. Byre Gowda chaired the GBA Executive Committee meeting on Friday. For the first time, the committee brings together all parastatal chiefs on one platform.

“Although the law mandates meetings of the executive committee once every two months, meetings would be convened more frequently whenever necessary to ensure continuous monitoring and faster decision-making,” he said. He acknowledged that although the committee exists, it remains only on paper and does not hold frequent meetings.
