Two CPI(M) workers were arrested on Saturday night for allegedly attacking the house of T. Purushothaman, who was supporting independent candidate V. Kunhikrishnan, and setting fire to a car parked in the yard. The arrested have been identified as Sudheesh, President of Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) Payyannur West Region and Ajay Krishna. Police said the incident took place around 12:30 a.m. when the group arrived at the house, broke the window panes and set the car on fire.
Purushothaman alleged that CPI(M) workers were behind the attack. CPI(M) branch member and former DYFI Kannur district leader, Purushothaman, was earlier expelled from the party for factional activities but was later reinstated.
