Nestled on the banks of the Cauvery, Musiri is an agriculturally fertile belt known for its rich historical past. Settlement in the region dates back to the Neolithic and Megalithic eras. In later periods, it was ruled by the Pallava, Chola, Pandya dynasties and also the Vijayanagara emperors.
Musiri boasts an unusual topography. The side that lies on the Cauvery is fertile enough to yield three harvests a year, say farmers. But agriculture on the northern side is dependent on rain.
