Allied health disciplines like nursing, pharmacy and physiotherapy and diplomas in non-medical courses have grown in scope with demand for professionals across the globe, E. Theranirajan, additional director of medical education, Tamil Nadu, said on Saturday.
Addressing a gathering of students, teachers and parents at the Hindu EducationPlus Career Counseling Fair 2026, Dr. Theranirajan said these courses do not require students to appear for the National Eligibility Test (NEET). In view of the increasing demand for nursing professionals in Europe and other countries, Tamil Nadu Government was going to start Bachelor of Nursing course in 11 Government Colleges. Similarly, physiotherapy was growing in scope both domestically and abroad, while occupational therapy was an emerging field in India but already in high demand abroad. Also, certain diploma courses like Cardio Perfusion Technology were in high demand and could be pursued, said Dr. Theranirajan.
