The AIADMK’s election promise to waive off loans taken through cooperative institutions has raised the question of feasibility following Reserve Bank of India (RBI) guidelines.
The AIADMK scheme includes crop loans taken by farmers from Primary Agriculture Credit Cooperatives (PACCS) and loans taken by disabled persons and pavement vendors from cooperative banks. Although the ruling DMK is silent on the issue of crop loan waiver this time, it had given assurances in this regard five years ago.
