Bengaluru police have arrested a caretaker, identified as Vijayalakshmi, who worked at a crèche operating at the Capgemini campus in the eastern part of the city, in connection with allegations of physical abuse and cruelty against the children of IT employees.
A senior police officer told The Hindu that Vijayalakshmi, who is in her early 40s, was seen in videos in which the children were allegedly “intimidated in an intimidating manner” and ill-treated.
“We have analyzed the available videos and it is clear that Vijayalakshmi was guilty. We have sought her custody for questioning,” the officer said.
Police are preparing for more arrests. “There are legal challenges to further arrests that are being addressed,” he added.
The case came to light after alleged videos surfaced on social media showing the alleged mistreatment of children at Little Buds Day Care. Tilekesh Kumar registered a complaint at the HAL police station which led to the filing of an FIR under Section 351(2) (Criminal Intimidation) of the BNS and Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice Act.
The complainant alleged that the nursery staff subjected the children to physical and psychological abuse. The complaint further stated that children who cried or were disruptive were beaten, dragged, manhandled, locked in a washroom, had water thrown on them and otherwise subjected to physical abuse.
