Haryana on Friday (April 10, 2026) saw a bitter political row over the contentious issue of crop acquisition, with the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the opposition Congress exchanging barbs over the treatment of farmers.
Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition, Bhupinder Singh Hooda of the Congress Party on Friday (April 10, 2026) alleged that the BJP government is harassing farmers by imposing arbitrary and unreasonable conditions in an attempt to evade their basic duty to buy their produce.
Mr. Hooda, who visited the Pipli grain market in Kurukhetra, as part of his ongoing tour of the grain markets, said that farmers, commission agents and laborers were facing huge difficulties due to lack of smooth procurement and imposition of various new conditions. “Instead of buying wheat and mustard, the government is imposing one bizarre condition after another on farmers,” he said.
