Fundamental issues like teacher vacancies, delay in payment of pensions and absence of vice-chancellors in state universities should be prioritized as responsible and realistic educational commitments in the election manifesto, former Anna University Vice-Chancellor E. Balagurusamy urged Chief Minister MK Stalin on Friday.
In an open letter to Mr. Stalin, Prof. Balagurusamy urged him to focus on filling vacancies in institutions, developing infrastructure and filling leadership gaps such as the absence of vice-chancellors in state universities. Commenting on the DMK’s promise to introduce artificial intelligence (AI) in all academic programmes, he said that introducing AI as a subject would mean appointing a faculty specialized in AI, which seemed difficult without addressing the underlying issues.
