England announce ODI squad for India series; James Coles, Josh Tongue earned first call-ups
England captain Harry Brook (AFP photo) NEW DELHI: England on Friday announced a 16-man squad for the three-match ODI series against India later this month, with all-rounder James Coles and fast bowler Josh Tongue earning their first call-ups.India and England are currently playing a five-match T20I series before heading for three ODIs on July 14, 16 and 19 in Birmingham, Cardiff and Lord’s.
James Coles, Josh Tongue earn first ODI call-ups
The biggest talking points in the England squad are the inclusion of Coles and Tongue, who are yet to make their ODI debuts.Seamen Gus Atkinson and Saqib Mahmood were also among the selectors as England prepare to face a strong Indian side.
Jofra Archer returns
Fast bowler Jofra Archer has also been named in the squad and is set to return to ODI cricket for the first time since November 2025.His return will boost England’s pace attack ahead of the three-match series.
India will field a strong team
India are expected to field an almost full squad for the ODI series.Former captain Rohit Sharma and pace boss Jasprit Bumrah are on the agenda, while Virat Kohli’s participation will depend on his fitness.
