Death of Sai Krishna: SIT captures bones, burnt ashes, bloodstained lathis

The Special Investigation Team (SIT), which is probing the alleged custodial death of Gade Sai Krishna and the subsequent destruction of evidence, has reportedly seized suspected human remains and other material objects from the terrace of the Krishnalanka police station premises.

The investigation team said the seized items, including a blood-stained lathi, bones, burnt ashes, partially burnt steel wrist chain and other suspicious material, have been sent to the Andhra Pradesh Forensic Science Laboratory (APFSL) for scientific examination. APFSL officials who inspected the Krishnalanka police station reportedly found indications that electronic evidence, including CCTV footage and other digital records covering the period from May 1 to June 1, 2026, had been destroyed.

Meanwhile, the SIT has moved the court challenging the conditional police custody granted to suspended circle inspector SSVV Nagaraju. The Second Additional Judicial Magistrate First Class has granted the SIT eight-day police custody of Nagaraju, who is lodged in Rajamahendravaram Central Jail in judicial custody. The court granted police custody from July 3 to July 10 and ordered that the interrogation be videotaped.

The SIT also alleged that Nagaraju did not disclose the facts regarding Sai Krishna’s custody and instead threatened and abused his mother G. Vijaya Lakshmi and her relatives.

According to investigations, Sai Krishna was arrested by the Vijayawada Task Force and the Krishnalanka Police in Markapuram in the early hours of May 5 and was brought to the Krishnalanka Police Station at about 7 am the next day. He is said to have been missing since then.

In her complaint, G. Vijaya Lakshmi alleged that the then Circle Inspector Krishnalanka illegally detained her son, subjected him to custodial torture, murdered him and destroyed evidence.
