This Indian Premier League season saw yet another umpiring howl during the Kolkata Knight Riders vs Lucknow Super Giants match on Thursday, April 9. KKR opener Finn Allen lost his wicket due to a poor decision by third umpire KN Ananth Padmanabhan who had him caught despite fielder Digvesh Raboundary stepping on the rope.
The incident occurred in the second over of the match, off the bowling of Prince Yadav. Allen edged the fourth over which flew towards the third man region. Digvesh, who was there, initially misjudged the flight of the ball and stepped in from the boundary.
It’s good that we can spend 15 minutes checking a width that’s 3 feet above the batsman’s head, but when they’re deciding whether the biggest wicket in the game is out or not, they look at things like that for 5 seconds and send him on. pic.twitter.com/JeI9aWjYq7— Rob Barron (@MonsieurJudge) April 9, 2026
Realizing his mistake, he quickly backpedaled towards the rope in an attempt to complete the catch.
While Digvesh managed to catch the ball, he appeared to step on the boundary rope in the process. Despite this, the third referee spent very little time reviewing the incident, despite his feet being extremely close to the ropes, and sent Allen off.
It turned out to be a glaring error, with footage clearly showing that Digvesh’s left foot touched the boundary rope as he completed the catch.
Cricket fans at X were outraged by the decision, sparking another terrible decision related to controversial catches.
