Brazil cricket team all-rounder Laura Cardoso made history during the T20I match against Lesotho when she became the first player in both men’s and women’s T20I cricket to take nine wickets in one innings. Her extraordinary bowling effort led Brazil to an impressive victory.
Cardoso bowled three overs, conceding just four runs and taking nine wickets. This performance helped Brazil secure a 189-run victory. The previous best bowling figures in T20I cricket were held by Bhutan’s Sonam Yeshey, who took eight wickets in seven overs against Myanmar in a men’s T20I match in 2025.
Cardoso also broke the women’s T20I record previously set by Indonesia’s Rohmalia Rohmalia, who took seven wickets without conceding a run against Mongolia in 2024.
Brazil posted an impressive total of 202 runs, helped by Roberta Avery, who scored 48 off 35 balls, and Monnike Machado, unbeaten on 69 off 41 deliveries. A strong batting foundation set the stage for Cardoso’s devastating bowling display.
Cardoso began her spell in the second game by clean bowling Kananelo Molapo before trapping Boitumelo Tlali and Kananelo Mabitle lbw to complete the hat-trick. Her dominance continued as she claimed four wickets in the fourth over, dismissing Makopano Mabathoana, Tshepang Khabo, Maneo Nyabela and Thato Mahe without conceding a single run.
