Former Australian opener David Warner has landed himself in serious trouble after being charged with drink-driving following an incident in Maroubra, Sydney on Tuesday. Details of his arrest, for which he was charged on the highway, have been released. According to reports, Warner was pulled over by New South Wales Police during a routine random breathalyzer test. The test reportedly revealed he was over the legal alcohol limit, with a blood alcohol reading of 0.104, more than twice the legal limit in Australia. Police said Warner returned a positive result during roadside testing and was subsequently arrested. He was then taken to Maroubra Police Station for further examination.According to the Daily Mail, the former cricketer told police he drank three glasses of wine at a friend’s house before trying to drive back to his residence in Maroubra. Following the test results, Warner was formally charged, with the case now proceeding under Australian law. He was ordered to appear in court next month.“At around 5.30pm today (Sunday 5 April 2026) police were carrying out stationary random breath tests on Malabar Road, Maroubra,” a police statement read. “A van was seen that allegedly pulled up in front of the testing site and parked. Police officers from the Traffic and Highway Patrol Headquarters approached the vehicle and subjected the driver – a 39-year-old man – to a road test, which yielded a positive result.”“He was arrested and taken to Maroubra Police Station where a second test reportedly returned a reading of 0.104.“The man has been issued with a Field Court Attendance Notice for a medium PCA charge to appear at Downing Center Local Court on Thursday 7 May 2026.”However, the court proceedings will not stand in the way of Warner’s participation in PSL 2026. If Warner is found guilty, the alleged drink-driving incident could jeopardize his professional partnership.
