Andhra University’s Shatabdi Mahotsav, a three-day cultural festival that began on April 6 at the AU Engineering Grounds, has set the stage for a series of events leading up to Andhra University’s centenary day on April 26.
The cultural festival, which takes place from April 6 to 8, is designed to kick off the centenary and anchors a wider calendar that interweaves cultural, academic and outreach programs for the next three weeks.
On Tuesday, the second day of the festival, MP M Sribharat and actor Sivaji attended as guests, even as students and local artistes participated in performances ranging from classical to folk traditions. Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan is expected to attend the concluding day on April 8 as the chief guest.
The immediate schedule reflects a combination of academic engagement and cultural programming. A five-day workshop on ‘KOHA’, an open integrated library system (ILS), is being held from April 6 to 10, along with literary and classical arts events, including Kavi Sammelanam on April 7 and a national workshop on Indian classical music and dance from April 8 to 10.
From April 10 to 15, the university will organize AU@100 awareness campaigns under the banner “AU Calling” aimed at faculty, staff and students. A panel discussion on the Distance and Online Learning Center is scheduled for April 13, followed by a women’s rally on April 16.
Vice-Chancellor GP Raja Shekar said the centenary was designed as a phased encounter. He said that a year-long program anchored in academic excellence, infrastructure and outreach has been launched.
From April 18, attention will shift to individual components and affiliated institutions. He said April 18 will mark the centenary of the affiliated colleges, followed by celebrations at the constituent colleges on April 19, 21, 22 and 23.
As per the schedule, events will be held on April 19 at College of Arts and Commerce, Institute of Advanced Studies in Education and Andhra University School of International Business. On April 21, programs will be held in the College of Science and Technology and the College of Pharmaceutical Sciences. The events will be held on April 22 at the College of Engineering and College of Engineering for Women and on April 23 at the Faculty of Law Dr. BR Ambedkar. The break was scheduled for April 20 in view of Chandanotsavam.
The series will culminate on April 26 with the centennial celebration. Senior public officials, including Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Education Minister Nara Lokesh, are expected to attend, along with distinguished alumni. The event will include the congratulation of important personalities and the laying of foundation stones.
