In the Rajasthan Royals vs Mumbai Indians game, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi will face Jasprit Bumrah for the first time. Both men were in the lineup when these teams met last season, but Sooryavanshi was dismissed for a two-ball duck.
The 15-year-old scored 83 runs in two matches at a strike rate of 237.14, including a 15-ball fifty against CSK. Bumrah, on the other hand, was wicketless but has an economy of seven. As the stage was set for a thrilling contest between the young prospect and the master pacer, Aaron Finch and Abhinav Mukund entered the fray.
The former Australia captain said that Bumrah will have plans and tricks for every batsman and will look full and try to beat Sooryavanshi if he gets the ball in the power play.
“I don’t think it really matters how he goes against you. I mean, he’s such an unusual prospect when you’re looking at a 15-year-old kid. He’s closer to not being a teenager than being out of puberty.”
“Bumrah is a wonderful bowler. He has plans and tricks for every batsman. But Sooryavanshi with his ability to come in from the start and just take any attack. It’s so special to see a young kid play with the freedom he has. I would expect Bumrah to really go all out when he bowls earlier than we said.”
“I know he’s made a couple of plays in the power play, but if they give him the ball first. He’s going to go really hard, he’s going to try to knock him down with a fraction of a swing,” Finch said.
HOW WILL SOORYAVANSHI TREAT BUMRAHA?
Sooryavanshi is not someone who plays on merit and not on reputation. When he scored his record-breaking hundred against GT last season, the youngster destroyed the likes of Mohammed Siraj, Ishant Sharma and Rashid Khan.
This was pointed out by Mukund in his analysis, saying that the RR opener will treat Bumrah like any other bowler in the league.
“I don’t think he thinks before he does things like that. I think it’s just the ball. He reacts, which is the best thing because as a young man you have a lot of clutter in your head. This guy doesn’t think about all those things. He has 100 against the likes of Siraj, Ishant Sharma and Rashid Khan.”
“I don’t think it matters to him who bowls at him. I think he plays the ball on merit, which is wonderful to see from a 15-year-old boy. He has exceptional ability. And he would play Bumrah as well as any other bowler, if it’s fair to say,” said Mukund.
MI are looking to bounce back from the loss to DC while RR will be aiming to make it three out of three in IPL 2026.
