Justice EV Venugopal of the Telangana High Court on Monday issued a notice to the state and central governments in a writ petition seeking direction to reconsider the ranking of “best police station” awarded to Shamirpet police station of Malkajgiri commissionerate on the northern outskirts of Hyderabad.
The petition was filed by Lokahitha based in Medchal-Malkajgiri district which sought to consider its representation given to the Center and the State to review the 7th rank awarded to Shamirpet State Police Station and the best police station in Telangana State. The petitioner company also wanted the court to order an investigation by the Vigilance Commission into the alleged corruption in the police department.
According to the company, represented by its chairman Venkat Swamy, the best placement ran counter to the company members’ experiences of corruption, inaction and abuse of power. The petitioner pointed out that Sub-Inspector of Police Station M. Parashuram was caught accepting a bribe of ₹22,000 from a person in August 2025.
The same SI was accused of accepting a bribe of ₹2,000 from the same complainant. Some members of the society filed complaints about illegal land grabs, but the constables did not respond, the petitioner said. It was only after society members moved the High Court that police officials registered cases, the petitioner said.
The matter was remanded for further hearing on April 20.
