Tensions escalated in Trikaripur constituency after United Democratic Front (UDF) candidate Sandeep Varier was allegedly assaulted during a campaign visit to Nehru College in Padanakkad on Monday afternoon (April 6).
UDF leaders alleged that the Students Federation of India (SFI) activists obstructed Mr. Varier during his election campaign visit to the campus and later engaged in a scuffle that escalated into physical assault. The situation is said to have worsened when party workers accompanying the candidate intervened.
Mr Varier and several of his supporters suffered minor injuries in the incident and were treated at a nearby hospital. Police arrived at the scene and brought the situation under control.
While the SFI has not formally responded to the allegations, sources said the exact reason for the clash remains unclear.
