Weather in Delhi today: Residents of Delhi woke up to a colder morning as rain lashed several areas of the national capital on Tuesday morning. The city is bracing for more showers during the day as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert for thunderstorms and light rain today.
The IMD has issued an orange alert for Tuesday, April 7, predicting thunderstorms accompanied by light rain and gusty winds. The rains are expected to continue through Wednesday.
On Wednesday, April 8, the Met Office issued a yellow warning for thunderstorms accompanied by light rain and gusty winds.
The meteorological agency has also predicted isolated hailstorm over Delhi on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The change in weather conditions is attributed to changing wind patterns and the influence of the Western Disturbance, PTI reported. This disturbance is likely to bring intermittent cloud cover and scattered showers over the state capital region.
Mercury dip
This fresh rain is expected to reduce the temperature in the capital to a maximum of around 31 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 20 degrees Celsius.
Temperatures are expected to rise again from April 10.
Minimum temperatures are expected to remain below normal in Delhi. Safdarjung recorded 20.6 degrees Celsius on Tuesday morning.
According to the IMD, the maximum and minimum temperatures over Delhi are likely to be in the range of 30°C to 32°C and 19°C to 21°C respectively on Tuesday. The minimum temperature will be close to normal (-1.5°C to 1.5°C) and the maximum temperature will be noticeably below normal (-3.1°C to -5.0°C) over Delhi.
The Met Office issued a warning warning that thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds expected over the city could temporarily reach 60km/h during the storm with ground-level winds raising dust, and urged residents to take precautions.
