
The Vatticherukuru police arrested seven youths for allegedly consuming and selling ganja, with 1.7 kg of the contraband seized in a raid on Monday. Superintendent of Police (SP) Vakul Jindal said in a press release that the operation was conducted based on specific information.
The police raided around 3 pm near an agricultural collapse on the Ananthavarappadu-Lemallepadu road. The accused were found engaged in ganja-related activities and were taken into custody. Police recovered 1.7 kg of ganja, an auto-rickshaw and ₹1,300 in cash from them.
The main accused has been identified as Matluri Sai Krishna (25), a resident of Guntur, who allegedly procured ganja cheaply from Vijayawada and sold it at higher prices. The remaining accused – Kamunuri Pradeep, Istela Joseph Raju, Jeshtati Daniel Raju, Siripalli Naga Sesh, Battula Santosh and Bhogineni Narendra – allegedly consumed and distributed the small packets.
A case was registered under relevant sections of the NDPS Act and the accused were brought before the court. Police have warned that they will continue to crack down on drug-related offences.
