The Kalyana Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KKCCI) along with a hotel association have expressed concern over the continued shortage and irregular supply of commercial LPG cylinders in Kalaburagi, saying the crisis is severely affecting the hospitality sector and allied businesses.
The issue was discussed at a joint meeting held on April 6 at the KKCCI auditorium in Kalaburagi, attended by representatives of the chamber, hotel association and more than 50 hotel owners.
Hotel owners have expressed concern that despite being registered establishments and regular customers, they have not been getting adequate LPG supply for over a month now. They claimed that while licensed businesses are struggling, street vendors and unregistered establishments appear to be receiving pressurized cylinders, raising suspicions of diversion in the distribution system.
The participants also pointed out that commercial LPG cylinders are being sold at higher prices in the open market, further exacerbating the problem. “LPG is essential for our day-to-day operations. Without assured supply, it is increasingly difficult for businesses to survive,” they said.
While the stakeholders acknowledged that the government prioritized domestic consumption, hospitals and educational institutions due to supply constraints related to the war in West Asia, they emphasized that the commercial sector played a key role in supporting livelihoods and meeting people’s needs.
KKCCI President Sharanabasappa M. Pappa said supply disruptions impact not only business owners but also workers and the wider local economy. The chamber demanded a dedicated quota for commercial LPG users, a transparent allocation system, regular and predictable supply and advance notice before restrictions are imposed.
The chamber called for a time-bound plan to restore normal supply and said it was coordinating with the deputy commissioner’s office to convene a joint meeting with district authorities, LPG vendors and representatives of the hotel sector to find an immediate solution.
The KKCCI reiterated its commitment to protect the interests of the business community and urged the authorities to take urgent measures to ensure uninterrupted functioning of essential services such as the hospitality sector.
