Vaniyambadi town police on Sunday arrested three youths for possession of 1600 narcotic tablets (Tapentadol) in Tirupattur’s Vaniyambadi town.
Police said the arrested persons were identified as Abdul Kadeer (26) of Coimbatore, S. Gowri Sankar (24) of Tirupur and K. Sankar Guru (26), a resident of Salem.
An initial investigation revealed that on the tip-off to Tirupattur SP V. Shyamala Devi, special teams were formed to conduct surprise checks at public places such as bus terminus and railway stations and isolated buildings in the district.
Accordingly, a special police team was conducting a routine check near the Vaniyambadi railway station when the team received a tip-off about the suspects who were at a bus stop going to a small town to sell at a retail outlet.
Police said the team immediately rushed to the bus terminus and arrested the suspects. Investigations revealed that the gang had placed an order for the tablets at pharmacies in Mumbai. The tablets were sent to them by courier.
Police tracked the mobile phones of the suspects involved in the crime before chasing them down near a bus stop. A case has been registered. The arrested persons have been lodged in a sub-jail in Tirupattur town. A probe is underway.
