SN Channabasappa, Shivamogga MLA, said former Deputy Prime Minister Babu Jagjivan Ram was a beacon of light for the downtrodden sections of the society and a great leader who held many important posts.
Mr. Channabasappa spoke on the Shivamogga program on Sunday (April 5) to mark the 119th birth anniversary of Jagjivan Ram, fondly called ‘Babuji’. “He was not just a politician but a leader who fought for the rights of dalits and oppressed classes. He was among those responsible for abolishing the practice of untouchability,” he noted.
Deputy Commissioner Shivamogga Prabhulinga Kavalikatti said that Jagjivan Ram was one of the greatest personalities of the nation. “We should adopt his principles and remember his contributions. His work should be a guide for united nation-building work,” he said.
The Deputy Commissioner recalled that Jagjivan Ram was an outstanding leader who served the country for a long time. In his career, he held various roles.
Speaker GK Sathish spoke about the life and achievements of the leader. Superintendent of Police B. Nikhil, Shivamogga City Corporation Commissioner Mayanna Gowda, Deputy Director of Social Welfare Department D. Malleshappa and others were present.
The program was jointly organized by Shivamogga District Administration, Shivamogga Zilla Panchayat and Social Welfare Department.
