Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS)’s representative in the Assembly, T. Harish Rao, accused the Congress government of a ₹7,000 crore conspiracy in the 373-acre prime land scam at Nadergul on the outskirts of the city by some companies belonging to Revenue Minister Ponguleti, who are members of the Redguleti Srinivas family, who are members of the Dis60 family.
Addressing a press conference here on Sunday, Mr. Rao said the land was donated to poor farmers by the Congress government in united Andhra Pradesh. The then Leader of Opposition N. Chandrababu Naidu fought for their protection in 2007 and the then Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy declared it as government land and transferred it to the Industrial Infrastructure Corporation.
APIIC later gave some land to Unitech Company and in 2015 the state government lost a Supreme Court case brought by Shivraj Bahadur claiming that the land was given to him by the Nizams as an “inaam” (gift) but the Land Ceiling Act prevented him from taking it. In 2016, Alfa, United and Omega applied to convert 50 acres of land each.
Later, the then government of K. Chandrasekhar Rao banned or disallowed land transactions and it was listed as prohibited land under Section 22A of the Land Ceiling Act. The plaintiff moved the High Court and lost the case there, and moved the Supreme Court again in September 2023, which, however, did not lift the stay of the land transaction. The state government also filed an affidavit reiterating that it was government land. Even on Sunday, the Bhu Bharati portal shows the land in question as government land, explained Mr. Harish Rao.
He tried to find out why RDO and HYDRAA are silent when the soil grabbers have already destroyed the Lachhamma Kunta feeder channels on the land which later brings its excess water to Noncheruvu, Marrivani Kunta, Reddy Kunta, Sunnam Kunta and Injavurumasam Cheruvu downstream. He claimed they also leveled 3 of the 4 knolls on the property to extract gravel, road metal and more.
