Tim David lit up the M Chinnaswamy Stadium with a breathtaking display of power hitting on Sunday. The Australian finisher smashed eight sixes in his unbeaten 70 off just 25 balls and produced one of the most devastating cameos of IPL 2026 against Chennai Super Kings. He split both spin and pace to guide the defending champions to 250 in 20 overs, their highest total against CSK in IPL history. | Scorecard | Update |
RCB were already well placed at 207 for 3 when David and skipper Rajat Patidar shifted gears in the dying overs. David then took it to the next level when he dismantled Jamie Overton, who bowled two tight overs before returning for his third. The Singapore-born hitter smashed four sixes, including a 109-metre monster that sailed over the roof of the iconic venue.
As Anushka Sharma watched the onslaught, she couldn’t believe what she saw. The Bollywood actor, who was there to cheer on RCB, was left in awe as David launched ball after ball into the stands. Virat Kohli, dismissed earlier for 28 off 18, came out of the dressing room to take on the carnage. Mirroring Anushka’s reaction, he stood open-mouthed as David raged. Interestingly, David was bowled for 28 in the 18th over by Anshul Kamboj. However, Kamboj crossed it and David earned a reprieve as it was called a no-ball.
David and Patidar combined for 99 runs for the fourth wicket in just 35 balls to put the game firmly out of CSK’s reach in Bengaluru.
No pitcher was spared. Noor Ahmad, Anshul Kamboj and Overton all came under heavy fire as RCB exploded in the last 10 overs, plundering 159 runs at that stage.
It marked a dramatic shift after a relatively subdued first half. RCB were 91 for 1 at the halfway mark, with Kohli falling after some gutsy no-look sixes while Phil Salt was just beginning to find his range.
CSK, who came into the match on the back of two defeats, were shocked at the end of the innings. When captain Ruturaj Gaikwad decided to jump in and remove Kohli in the power over, they would have expected a much more controlled effort on a surface that didn’t initially seem suited to such relentless hitting.
However, CSK’s bowling struggled, especially in the absence of Nathan Ellis. In their opening game, Rajasthan Royals were chasing 128 in just 12.1 overs in Guwahati. Recently, Punjab Kings overhauled 210 with 10 balls to spare, extending CSK’s losing run.
The problems continued with the bat. The top order of Sanju Samson, Gaikwad and youngster Ayush Mhatre, who had scored quick fifties in the previous game, managed only 9, 7 and 1 as CSK slumped to 30 for 3 in three overs.
Jacob Duffy and Bhuvneshwar Kumar ran riot with the new ball, decimating CSK’s top order and effectively ending any hopes of Bengaluru’s record chase.
Without MS Dhoni and Dewald Brevis, who were both sidelined due to injury, CSK also lacked spark with the bat. Senior players like Gaikwad and Samson struggled to find form in the opening matches of the season.
