Finance Minister Payyavula Keshav inaugurated a water treatment plant at Muddalapuram village in Kuderu mandal of Uravakonda Assembly constituency on Sunday. The plant, which has a processing capacity of 16 million liters per day, was built at a cost of ₹ 15.35 crore using central government funds under the AMRUT scheme.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Keshav said that the State Government is committed to provide potable drinking water to the people of the district during summer. He appreciated the efforts of Anantapur Urban MLA Daggubati Venkateswara Prasad for helping to complete the construction work.
Mr. Keshav said that unlike the previous YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) government, which was limited to allocating funds, their government was translating words into action. Mr. Keshav said the NDA government had allocated ₹3,800 crore in last year’s budget for widening and lining the Handri-Neeva canal and had completed the work. He said the government was completing irrigation projects while simultaneously taking steps to overcome drinking water problems. The finance minister added that the government has allocated ₹700 crore to solve the problem of drinking water in the municipalities.
Mr. Keshav also said that he would complete capital works in Amaravati and the Polavaram project besides bringing investment to the state.
Anantapur MP Ambica Lakshminarajana said the completion of the power plant by summer would solve the city’s drinking water problem. He said Union Urban Development Minister Manohar Lal Khattar was prioritizing the development of Anantapur, which was made possible by the “twin engine of sarkar” in the state.
Mr. Venkateswara Prasad said the construction of the plant began in 2017 with the support of the then Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu. However, its construction did not progress under the previous regime. “We completed the construction of the power plant in just 20 months and it was inaugurated after a three-month trial run. The city’s residents will no longer have to face the problem of drinking water,” he said.
