The US Secret Service said on Sunday (local time) it was investigating reports of a shooting overnight near Lafayette Park, which is just across the street from the White House, the AP reported.
US President Donald Trump spent the weekend at the White House, where operations remained business as usual after the shooting was announced, according to the Secret Service. However, security in the area has been increased.
In an online update, the agency said no injuries were reported and no suspect had been identified after officials searched the park and surrounding areas after midnight. The Secret Service said it is working with the District of Columbia Police and the U.S. Park Service.
The park was fenced off for weeks of reconstruction.
This is a developing story. Further details were awaited.
