Around 19 tonnes of mangoes were seized from nine places during raids conducted by the Hyderabad-based Task Force (H-FAST) on Friday evening (April 3) in areas including Asif Nagar and Tappachabutra.
Officials said the seized stock was handed over to food safety officials, who took samples for analysis. The raid uncovered violations related to the use of artificial ripening chemicals.
Following the enforcement action, traders and stakeholders were summoned to the H-FAST office on Saturday (April 4) and informed of the violations found during the raids.
An information session was held on food safety standards and ethical mango ripening, during which officials explained the permitted use of ethylene-based ripening agents and outlined dos and don’ts to ensure compliance.
The meeting was chaired by DCP Vaibhav Raghunath Gaikwad’s task force and was attended by officials from the Task Force and GHMC along with around 30 mango godown owners and fruit vendors.
Authorities have warned that the misuse of the chemicals poses a risk to public health and said strict legal action will be taken against violators. Officials added that enforcement and awareness programs will continue across the city.
