
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning of more rain in the capital region. It has further issued an orange alert for Jharkhand predicting heavy rains today – April 5 and a yellow alert for several northeastern, central, eastern and southern states. The Met office predicted wet spells in the coming days due to an active western disturbance and predicted “isolated heavy rainfall” in Arunachal Pradesh on April 5 and then again between April 7 and 10.
Wet waves are also likely in Assam and Meghalaya today and again on April 8 and 9. “Another successive Western Disturbance is very likely to affect northwest India during the week of maximum activity on April 7-8,” the IMD said in its latest weather report.
Suggesting that daytime temperatures will remain below normal to near normal over most of the country during the next 7 days, the Met department added: “Thunderstorm activity with lightning very likely over central, eastern and peninsular India till April 8 with isolated hail over Marathawada, Madhya Maharashtra, & Vidarbha over west Chgarhtis, Bengal 4 Pragtis, Bengal; Sikkim, Bihar on 7 and April 8, 2026;

The regional meteorological office has issued a yellow alert for “thunderstorm, lightning and gusty winds” in Purulia, Bankura, East and West Burdwan, West Midnapore, Jhargram and Hooghly districts of South Bengal. Further, light to moderate rain is likely to occur in the above districts.

Residents of Delhi can expect “partly cloudy skies” in the morning, which is likely to become generally cloudy in the afternoon. Forecasting a possibility of thunderstorm development during the evening, the IMD said the maximum temperature will be below normal and likely to settle around 30°C and 32°C. Meanwhile, the minimum temperature in the national capital is expected to hover around 17°C and 19°C — almost a normal range.
The regional weather office issued a warning at 7:25 a.m. predicting downpours in the next 2 hours. The weather alert for Delhi-NCR region states, “Very light rainfall/drizzle is very likely at isolated places of Delhi (Dilshad Garden, Seemapuri, Seelampur, Shahadra, Vivek Vihar, Preet Vihar), NCR (Hindon AF Station).
Apart from the state capital region, rainfall is also likely in the neighboring regions of Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan, which should be accompanied by thunderstorm activity and lightning.
