Discussions on the growing role of robotics, artificial intelligence, biologics and minimally invasive techniques in orthopedic practice, along with the need for their ethical and evidence-based adoption, took center stage at BOSCON 2026, the 29th annual conference of the Bangalore Orthopedic Society.
Experts at the conference, which began in the city on Saturday (April 4), stressed that while technological advances are rapidly transforming orthopedics, clinical decision-making must continue to be guided by scientific evidence and patient-centred outcomes. Lectures focused on real-world challenges, case-based discussions explored complex surgical scenarios and the importance of structured clinical reasoning.
Integration of new technologies
The conference also highlighted the need to balance innovation with established clinical practices, with speakers stressing that the integration of new technologies should not come at the expense of core principles of care.
“Orthopaedics today stands at a dynamic crossroads. We have inherited a rich legacy built by our teachers and academics while witnessing unprecedented advances in robotics, biology, artificial intelligence and precision surgery. The challenge is to integrate them responsibly based on evidence and ethics,” said Subodh Shetty, President, Bangalore Orthopedic Society.
Not just for commercial gain
Shantharam Shetty, Vice-Chancellor, NITTE University and Past President, Indian Orthopedic Association, said orthopedic practice must evolve as both an art and a science, combining clinical expertise with scientific validation, rather than being driven by commercial considerations.
Organized in collaboration with HOSMAT Hospitals, the event brought together orthopedic experts, surgeons and young clinicians from across Karnataka and neighboring regions.
