Thousands of people thronged the 1.5 km stretch in the state capital on Saturday evening as Prime Minister Narendra Modi led a roadshow organized as part of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA)-led Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) election campaign. Kerala will go to polls on April 9.
Mr. Modi, who arrived in Thiruvananthapuram at 6.20 pm after a campaign rally in Thiruvalla, drove an open campaign car decorated with flowers from Killipalam to Karamana. As darkness fell, party workers cheered Mr. Modi by showering flowers, shouting slogans and waving party flags as his vehicle drove at a slow pace between security barricades.
BJP state president and Nemom constituency candidate Rajeev Chandrasekhar, along with party candidates for Kazhakuttam, Vattiyurkavu and Thiruvananthapuram constituencies – V. Muraleedharan, R. Sreelekha and Karamana Jayan – joined Mr. Modi in the vehicle. Mr. Modi and the candidates waved small lotus-shaped LED hand torches at the crowd. The roadshow ended around 19:30
On Saturday morning, Mr. Rajeev Chandrasekhar invited the public to attend the roadshow through a social media post. He said that now it is Kerala’s turn to conquer new levels of development under the visionary leadership of Mr. Modi.
Before Mr. Modi’s visit, a Facebook post by General Education Minister and LDF candidate in Nemom, V. Sivankutty, also caught attention. Titled ‘Welcome Prime Minister Narendra Modiji to a developed Nemom’, the post carried the Prime Minister’s journey map and highlighted Mr. Sivankutty’s contribution to the development of the constituency.
